Top Destinations

We are fortunate to have over 10 dive sites all around Key West that allow us to offer all types of diving experiences. We have shallow dive sites both inland and out on the reef that are perfect for an open water course. We also have several different reef dive sites where you can further your diving experience during your advanced certification. These reefs offer the ability to do dives where you can practice skills such as navigation, search and recovery, and fish identification. We also have access to deeper dive sites such as the Cayman Salvager and the infamous Vandenberg wreck. Here you can achieve your advanced certification and complete a wreck specialty.

The USNS General Hoyt S. Vandenberg is one of the world’s largest artificial reefs!

USNS General Hoyt S. Vandenberg: The most popular wreck in all of The Keys, and the 2nd largest artificial reef internationally, this is a bucket-list dive for most divers. This World War II troop transport and missile tracking ship is over 520 feet long and 70 ft wide, sitting in over 140 ft of water. Our divemasters have a large knowledge of the wrecks and will be able to lead you around them safely. Her unique giant radar dishes were used to track the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo capsules. Our guided dive on the deck will lead you in exploration of its superstructure, bridge, com-rooms and crown nest depending on your air consumption. Thousands of divers have explored the wreck since 2009 when she was sunk and is a must-dive site. Since hurricane Irma the Vandenberg has moved slightly deeper and was turned 30 degrees from her original position. The main deck now sits at 108ft and is the perfect depth for Nitrox certified divers. The wreck is home to an abundance of wildlife and we often see various reef sharks, rays, goliath grouper, barracuda, and huge schools of sardines.

Wreck Dives

USNS GENERAL HOYT S. VANDENBERG - Six miles off the coast of Key West, a former military transport ship is now one of the largest artificial reefs in the world. Underwater, get ready for big. The colossal 522-foot, 13,000-ton General Hoyt S. Vandenberg is one of the biggest artificial reefs in the world. This retired Air Force missile-tracking ship was sunk in 2009 on the sand bottom at 150 feet. Nearly stretching the length of two football fields, the Vandy is an advanced diver’s dream. If you’ve got the experience and skills, you'll love exploring this wreck. You’ll begin your completely guided dive on the coral-encrusted deck in about 100 feet of water. Next up we have the - - - - - CAYMAN SALVAGE MASTER – 90 to 95 ft. depth. This wreck is a 180 foot long, steel hulled buoy tender that was sunk in 1985. The CAYMAN is your best opportunity to interact with goliath groupers (large jewfish) and moray eels. The staff supervised dive is generally on the deck, where all the marine life action takes place. Your second dive is to one of our less traveled shallow reef sites.
